2017 Manistee National Forest Festival Event Schedule

The Forest Festival Planning Committee is working diligently on the 2018 schedule!  We would like to say thank you to our Committee, Sponsors and the Community on all their hard work to present this line up of events. Below you’ll find a list of Festival Favorites and some new comers to the Festival line up from 2017 to get an idea of what is in store for 2018!

TJ Schmidt Carnival – June 30th, 2:00 pm – Dusk; July 1st, 2nd & 3rd 12:00 pm – Dusk ; July 4th 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm
A family owned and operated traveling carnival serving the state of Michigan. Traveling Theme Park with thrilling rides, tasty carnival fare and games of skill combine with superior customer amenities!
Location: 1st Street Beach, Manistee


Whispering Pines Animal Kingdom – July 1st – 3rd 10:00 am – Dusk, Free Event
A mobile exhibit that has a variety of animals from around the world from farm animals to exotic animals – it’s a zoo on wheels that’s fun for everyone!

The Hidden Lives of Objects – June 30th – July 4th, 10 am – 5 pm
Enjoy this unique exhibit from the point of view of the Museum’s Artifacts!
Admission: $1 for Students, $3 for Adults, $8 for Families
Location: The Manistee County Historical Museum, 425 River Street


B-17 Bomber “Yankee Lady” – June 30th 12 pm – 5 pm, July 1st 9 am – 5 pm, July 2nd 9 am – 3 pm
Come check out the B-17 Bomber “Yankee Lady” at the Manistee County Blacker Airport! Free to view, tours of the aircraft and rides are sold on-site.
Location: Manistee County Blacker Airport, 2323 Airport Rd., Manistee


Historic Trolley Tours – June 30th – July 3rd 10 am – 4 pm
Enjoy a ride in the trolley as you are given a tour of Manistee! Tours depart from the Veteran’s Memorial Parking lot across from Dial A Ride.
Admission: $6 per person, $3 for Seniors, Children, Disabled


PIPPIN, The Musical – June 30th, July 1st & 2nd
6/30, 7/1, 7/2, 7/7, 7/8, 7/9 and 7/5
Ramsdell Theatre – 6/30-7/9; Epworth Heights 7/5
Follow the journey of young prince, Pippin, who searches for happiness & fulfillment in all the wrong places. This four-time Grammy, three-time Oscar winning Musical will keep audiences spellbound!

Teen Dance – 7 pm – 9 pm
The Armory Youth Project with sponsorship from Filer Credit Union is excited to announce that they are hosting a teen dance from 7 pm – 9 pm. This is a FREE event with concessions available and music by DJ Cole Black for youth in 6th thru 12th grade. So spread the word, grab your friends and be ready to have a great time!

Rotary Golf Outing – 8:30 am Shotgun Start
Take part in the Manistee Rotary Club’s 18th Annual Forest Festival Golf Scramble! $75 per person includes 18 holes of golf and lunch, with an 8:30 am Shotgun start. Hole in One sponsored by Manistee Chevrolet. Contact Daryl Pieczynski with any questions, (231) 723-8874

Forest Service Bus Tour- 10 am – 1 pm FREE EVENT
Take a scenic ride through the Manistee National Forest, learn about forest practices and see recreational sites throughout the County. Meet at the Veterans Memorial parking lot across from Dial a Ride.
Bring a sack lunch and drink. Bus will stop at Spirit of the Woods Conservation District for lunch.
Call the US Forest Service Office at 231-723-2211 to reserve your seat.


Manistee Lion’s Club Annual Fish Boil – 4 pm – 6:30 pm
Enjoy a hearty meal down at the Lion’s Pavilion at 1st Street Beach! $10 for adults, $4 for children, and hot dogs will be available as well.

VIP Beach Bash – 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Get treated as a VIP! Admission gets you in to the entertainment area for an exclusive party with complimentary drinks, food and live music from Flat Broke as you secure your spot for the Bud Light Kick Off Party! The VIP Beach Bash is sponsored by Filer Credit Union.

Admission is $35 per person (includes admission to the Bud Light Kick Off party) or Chamber Members can take advantage of the Business Beach Package; 6 passes for $30 per person.

Bud Light Kick Off Party – 9:00 pm
Start the Festival off with a night of live music from the Lucas Paul Band and brews at the Bud Light Kick Off party! So bring your friends, family, and work pals on down to the Entertainment Area on 1st Street Beach for a night of fun!

Manistee Firecracker 5K Run/Walk & 1K Fun Run – 8 am 
Take part in the Firecracker 5K where you go your pace, walk or run with the kid’s 1K Fun Run happening prior to the 5K. Proceeds benefit the Manistee Community Track Project.
Run starts at the Manistee Area High School, 525 12th Street.

26th Annual Customs n Classics Car Show – 8 am – 2 pm
Presented by the Customs n Classics Car Club, this event is free to the public to check out an assortment of classic cars showcased along the Lake Michigan shoreline. Awards will go to the top 40 vehicles as well as other prizes!
Interested parties can participate in the car show, registration is $15 and is from 8 am -12 on the 1st, contact 231-590-7901 for more information.

Friends of the Library Book Sale – 9 am – 5 pm FREE EVENT
Check out the giant indoor and outdoor used book sale. Books, DVDs, CDs, there’s something for all ages.
Located behind the Manistee County Library at 95 Maple Street.


46th Annual Manistee World of Arts & Crafts Show – 9 am – 5 pm
Enjoy over 90 select artists and craftsmen participating in this unique juried arts and craft show! See beautiful carvings, paintings, jewelry, pottery, photography and more while enjoying delicious food and entertainment. Children can enjoy interactions with police and fire vehicles. Fun for the whole family.

Located at Red Szymarek Park on the corner of 5th Avenue and Monroe St.

Little River Band of Ottawa Indians 22nd Annual Jiingtamok (Pow-Wow) – Grounds open at 11 am
Enjoy traditional music, dance and fun at the 22nd Annual Jiingtamok (Pow-Wow)! With grand entries at 12 pm and 7 pm, located at the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians Government Center grounds, 2608 Government Center Dr, Manistee, Michigan 49660


Live Music & Wine Tasting – 1:30 pm – 4:30 pm 
Enjoy live music outside on the porch, wine tasting and wine by the glass. Snacks are available for purchase. Saturday: Chris Skellenger and Andre Villoch. Sunday: Zeke Clemons- covering all decades!

Salt City Rock & Blues “Bringing It Home” Concert – 7:00 pm – 12:30 am
Come and enjoy the sounds of Blues and Funk from experienced well known Michigan Bands; Rev Right Time and the 1st Cousins of Funk, Harper and Midwest Kind, and Eliza Neals and the Narcotics! The concert is presented by the Salt City Rock & Blues committee and proceeds from the event will go towards funding a 1st Street Beach Band Shell!
Gates open at 7 pm to 21 and Over. Advance tickets are $13 each or 2 for $25. Tickets are $15 at the door.
Location: The Forest Festival Entertainment Area, First Street Beach
Advance tickets will be available beginning May 1st at Jackpine Business Center, Manistee Area Chamber of Commerce, Manistee Inn & Marina, Port City Organics, Ramsdell Inn & TJ’s Pub, and Sports Ink.

Pancake Breakfast – 8 am – 1 pm
You, your family and friends are invited to start your day with this “Forest Festival Breakfast Bang!” Serving stacks of flapjacks and other yummy and delicious items. Service with a smile and a promise that you won’t walk away hungry!
All proceeds will benefit the MAPS/Community Track Project.
Advance Tickets: $6 (Adults), $4 (Ages 5-12), ages 5 & under FREE

Forest Festival Sandcastle Contest – 9 am – 3 pm
Bring out your shovels and pails, as this family fun event will take place all day on the beach at Douglas Park, First Street Beach.
Judging will take place at 3 pm; first place will receive a trophy and their picture on the Manistee National Forest Festival Facebook page.

Little River Band of Ottawa Indians 22nd Annual Jiingtamok (Pow-Wow) – Grounds open at 11 am

Your pet has what it takes to be a champion! the 5th Annual Port City Pet Pageant will find out who’s the cutest, oldest, biggest, smallest, best dressed and most patriotic pets in Manistee. Also witness the best trick and see which pet and owner look alike!

Manistee Bed Races – 6:30 pm
The Bed Races are back for the Manistee National Forest Festival! Gather your friends, families, cheer squads and super fans as you assemble your team and race! The races will be happening on Division Street (by Wahr Hardware) at 6:30 pm, and all admission funds raised go towards your teams preferred charity!

Beach Buddies Kids Parade & Activities – 11:30 am – 1:30 pm – FREE EVENT
Calling all kiddos, dress up as your favorite beach buddy character (anything beach related) and meet at Lighthouse Park! FREE lunch provided by Manistee Area Public Schools Satellite Program, FREE ice cream from West Shore Bank while mingling with special guest mascots, gifts from the US Forest Service, face painting, duck pond, and a scavenger hunt!
At 1 pm, the Forest Festival Prince & Princess will be crowned at Lighthouse Park and will lead the parade immediately following. Prizes will be awarded for best costumes, open to all children and fun for all!

Prince & Princess Pageant Crowning Ceremony – 1:00 pm – FREE EVENT
The Forest Festival Prince and Princess will be crowned for all to see and the new royalty will then lead the parade immediately following around Lighthouse Park.


Cruisin’ For Critters – 4 pm – 7 pm
Test drive a new Ford and support Homeward Bound!”
On Monday July 3rd from 4 pm until 7 pm, stop in to the parking lot of the Armory Youth Project for a fundraising event sponsored by Manistee Ford to benefit the Manistee County Humane Society/Homeward Bound Animal Shelter! For every test drive completed, Manistee Ford makes a donation to Homeward Bound!

Chalk Art – 5 pm (Registration at 4:45 pm) FREE EVENT
Get creative with chalk for kids age 5-6, 7-8, 9-10 at the Fountain Triangle in Downtown Manistee (River Street and Water St) Chalk is provided but you are welcome to bring your own! Pictures must have a “tree” incorporated into the artwork, and all kids will receive prizes.



Fireworks Over Lake Michigan – 10:30 pm
Enjoy a spectacular display of fireworks coloring the night sky over Lake Michigan! Best viewing from First Street Beach, Fifth Avenue Beach or from the Forest Festival Entertainment Area.

 


Flag Raising Ceremony – 9:45 am
Corner of Division Street & River Street Veterans will raise the flag as the National Anthem is sung. All Veterans and active duty are invited. Thank you for your service!



Independence Day Parade – 10:00 am

This fantastic one of a kind parade highlights our Veterans, Manistee County’s rich history, the Manistee National Forest and all the creative entries! Travels west on River Street from Division Street to First Street by the Armory Youth Project parking lot.

Duck Race – 1:30 pm

Presented by the Chamber Ambassadors, the Manistee County Child Advocacy Center and the mascot Ducky. 100’s of ducks will be released into the river from the Maple Street Bridge  they race to the finish line by the Elk’s Lodge #250 and are scooped up by the Marine Patrol. Raffle tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20. 1st Place $650, 2nd Place $200, 3rd Place $100, 4th Place $75 and last place $25. Tickets are available at: Manistee Area Chamber of Commerce, Manistee County Visitors Bureau, Knizacky Insurance Agency, the Outpost of Manistee, Snyder’s Shoes, Sports Ink.

There are still a few tickets available! You can get yours on July 4th down at Douglas Valley Winery Downtown during the parade and leading up to the race until the tickets are sold out!
